Second Glance

Friends have been recommending Jodi Picoult books to me for quite a while now and I have no idea why it took me so long to actually sit down with one. One of my colleagues at work (and another book lover, of course) gave me her copy of “Second Glance” to read.

My first Picoult book and I had no idea what to expect. To keep the suspense going, I didn’t even read the back flap of the book for a sneak peek into what the book was about. I am glad I did that and if you haven’t read “Second Glance” as yet, then, that is exactly what you ought to do as well!

It has been a while since I read a book as addictive and compelling as this one. Honestly. I started it and couldn’t function normally until I turned the very last page of the book. How she managed to give a twist to the story in practically every page totally amazes me! To say anything about the plot of the book would be like giving away a bit of it that you would discover as you breeze through the pages and I don’t want to do that. Let’s just say that it is a very spooky book. Much to the amusement of those around me, I am still very scared of the dark. I have a very vivid imagination and dark places are a perfect trigger for the cells that would love to work overtime anyways!

“Second Glance” practically kept my jumpy all through. Picoult talks about spirits and ghosts in a way that make them seem as normal as a Starbucks coffee on the way to work! But I loved it. It would take me a long while to actually become brave enough to venture into my yard in the dark or even look at the frosty mirror when I am done with my shower but I think it was worth it.

So, have you read this one? What are your views?
Have you reviewed it as well? Leave me a comment with your review and I’ll link it to mine.
Not read it as yet? Go and grab your copy now!:)

Btw, what is your favorite Picoult book? I am surely going to pick up another one by her and I would love to hear your recommendation!

I loved this book! It is at the top of my list for favorites of hers. I've read all of hers except maybe a couple of her first ones. Other good ones are My Sister's Keeper, Nineteen Minutes, Salem Falls-among a few. Salem Falls is another that is kind of creepy I believe. Glad you enjoyed it Ramya. Picoult really writes many of her books in a way that really grabs a person. I didn't enjoy her latest much but I'm looking forward to the next one out in 2009.

I read The Pact by her and, while it was interesting enough to finish, it wasn't good enough for me to want to read anymore books by her. But I think I might have to try this one.

I haven't yet read this one, but I plan too. I've enjoyed the few Jodi Picoult books I have read. My Sister's Keeper is probably my favorite. I also really liked Plain Truth and Salem Falls.

I second what the others say--My Sister's Keeper is really good...my favorite out of the 5 or 6 I've read. I was on a really big Picoult kick for a while but haven't read anything by her in months. She is a little formulaic, but it works for her. I'm glad you liked this one--I haven't read it but I'll have to keep my eye open for it!

I haven't read any Picoult books! I really want to, but it's one of those things where I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I've only read one by her, Vanishing Acts, which was OK but not great (in my books, at least). I might have to pick this one up, based on your review!

Also wanted to let you know I gave you an award / tagged you here.

I've only read My Sister's Keeper and Nineteen Minutes but loved them both! I will have to add Second Glance to my TBR pile now...

I've read several of Picoult's books - 19 Minutes, Vanishing Acts, My sister's keeper, The Pact, and Plain Truth - but Second Glance was definitely my favorite by far. I thought it was less formulaic and more twisty than the others.

I should have picked up one of her books after all, saw it in the book stands at the airport but did not buy it cos I wasn't familiar with the author's name (not that I know many in the first place!!) I am scared of the dark too, even the bedroom with the lights turned off is a no-pass zone, and someone loves to scare me with that!

This book is not as well known as a few of her other works. But it ought to be. It is different and keeps us totally engrossed.

I have read 8 of her 15 boks, inluding Te Sister's Keeper. My favourite Picoult is Salem Falls. Read it if you have not.

You can link my review with yours, if you like. Just type Picoult!

I've read several Picoult books, but not this one. It's on my list though.

(Btw, soooo sorry I haven't dropped in here in awhile. I've been so behind!)
